Alfredo is a health coach for our Members in the US and an internal medicine physician in Mexico. He is also an American Heart Association certified CPR instructor.
"My day usually blends coaching sessions, reviewing cases, and helping refine workflows so care stays evidence-based, safe, and culturally relevant."
The coaching sessions are the part that MiSalud members experience. The rest of it they don't, and Alfredo thinks that part matters just as much.
"A lot of the work happens behind the scenes," he says. "Designing workflows, prioritizing risk, and aligning a high standard of practice is just as important as direct care."
Here is what that means in practice. When a member talks to a MiSalud health coach, there are rules already in place for what the coach handles on their own, what goes to a provider or care navigator, and how quickly. Alfredo helps write those rules. The project he is proudest of was a redesign of the guidance workflows coaches follow. After the change, engagement went up and escalation to physician care became more expedient, and health outcomes continued to improve.
If you ask him what he is good at, he says strategic clinical thinking. "Balancing medical rigor with scalability, behavior change, and operational realities."

"Seeing people make real, sustainable changes. Not just better numbers, but better understanding and confidence in their health. I believe as a health coach I help create that change."
He gets there by taking something complicated and making it usable. "I help simplify health complexity into clear, actionable guidance, so our Socios feel supported and safe, while staying within clinical and regulatory boundaries."
He joined for the mission. "MiSalud genuinely focuses on access and impact for underserved communities, powered by technology."
And what keeps him going: "Remembering that even small interventions can have a big downstream impact, especially for people who've historically had limited access to care."
Alfredo does his best work mid-morning, when his head is clear. Late afternoon meetings are his least productive hour of the day.
Coffee: black, always. "Simple and reliable."
When he has admin work he puts on brain.fm, the alpha waves setting, and says it helps him focus. He can also work in silence or in a noisy room. The one thing he can't do is be on a call with noise around him.
Three words he'd use for MiSalud: purpose-driven, human, commitment.
One word for himself: thoughtful.
