MiSalud Health Receives American Heart Association Ventures Investment to Continue Mission of Closing Healthcare Gaps

Capital will Help Build Out Cross-Border Training, Credentialing and Nutrition Programs

We are thrilled to announce that MiSalud Health has received an equity investment from the American Heart Association's Social Impact Funds. The funds will support MiSalud Health’s efforts to improve healthcare access for workers in industries like agriculture, retail, hospitality and construction, where many laborers don’t speak English as a first language or face other barriers like lower health literacy. This news also marks the beginning of new MiSalud Health work to build out substantial cross-border educational programming in Mexico and the U.S. and to create new food-as-medicine nutrition models.

“MiSalud Health has long held the American Heart Association in the highest regard. Their unwavering commitment to health education and patient support is a model for the world, and their guidelines have been integral to our work,” said Wendy Johansson, Chief Operating Officer of MiSalud Health. “We are honored to receive their support to promote holistic approaches to healthcare. It aligns with our mission to provide care that incorporates not just the body, but also the culture, social factors, and emotional needs of each patient.”

This investment from the Association’s Social Impact Funds will fuel significant advancements in how MiSalud Health serves both our own patients and the cross-border clinician community.

“MiSalud’s approach to closing healthcare gaps for U.S. laborers is designed to meet the technological and language needs of workforces that can be left behind without guided support,” said Lisa Suennen, managing partner of American Heart Association Ventures. “Their mission aligns so well with the American Heart Association’s commitment to changing the future in the pursuit of better health for everyone, everywhere.”

The Social Impact Funds are part of American Heart Association Ventures, which leads and coordinates the venture capital programs of the American Heart Association. The Funds channel to small and medium-sized organizations that know their community best and whose ideas accelerate innovation to address local community and national health challenges. With a focus on driving equitable health and expanding access to capital, the Funds support for-profit and nonprofit organizations working to overcome barriers to health care access and quality, food security and economic empowerment.

We are incredibly excited about the opportunities this support unlocks and the positive impact it will have on the lives of those we serve. Stay tuned for more updates as our plans develop.
